If Only a Little
--Dan Cavallari
The entire trip made her
Wonder if it really was
Possible
To be "No worse for the wear."
Looking at the rusted fender and
Bond-o body,
She thought not.
Every rest stop takes something
From you. Every night in a
Sleeping bag,
In the back seat by the rust
Hole that lets you stare down at
The pavement
Zipping by
Whispers something in your ear,
And when you stop to listen,
Be careful
Because she knows the trick.
Listen to the road too long and
It sets you
Off course
If only a little.
