Elijah Northen (b. 1981)
Elijah’s work stems from a curiosity in digital photography as an emerging art form, and its a ability as an instrument to produce images that are simultaneously authentic yet unattainable.
The majority of his work revolves around a sublime nucleus: specifically the
ability for the incomplete or obscure to instill us with a sense of awe. Woven through this central theme is an allusion to humankind’s relatively minor role in the universe. These fragmented bits of space and time allow the viewer to contemplate potential scenarios – experiences unique to each observer that stem far beyond the possible limits of any solitary image.
Drawing from minds such as Hitchcock, Kant, and Burke, his creations provide us with just enough of a glimpse to anticipate the “bang” without fully witnessing the moment of impact.
Elijah is a practicing architect and artist living in Baltimore, Maryland.
