SUBMISSIONS

*** 8/21/09 : Waterlogged August is now OPEN to submissions! We are particularly interested in audio readings and video performances, short films, etc., as well as all good writing and photography. CLOSING DATE for submissions is 11/21/09. 

NEW: Waterlogged August is looking for recorded work! We want to hear your prose and poetry recorded in mp3 format; for photographers, we would love to see video slideshows. Send us a sample or a link to your portfolio for consideration. 

Waterlogged August seeks prose, poetry, essay, reviews, experimental works, and anything else that strikes us as worthwhile writing and photography. We want to see work that is imaginative, unique, and eloquent. We especially want to hear from authors with a strong narrative voice, and photographers with a keen eye for detail and composition (note: the less photoshopped, the better).

 Please be sure to proofread your work before sending it. We will not read anything with spelling and grammar mistakes in it.

 Response time varies, but you will generally hear from us within one to two months. If you have not heard from us by then, feel free to e-mail us again.

 Simultaneous submissions are fine, as long as you notify us if your work is published elsewhere.

All queries must be sent via e-mail to waterloggedaugust@gmail.com. Your subject line should read Photo Submission for photography, Writing Submission for words, and Other Media Submission for everything else. Please don’t forget to include a brief bio and your contact info!

We do not accept snail-mail (postal delivery) submissions.

*Submissions to Waterlogged August will be considered for any and all sections of the website. Editors will choose one outstanding photographer and one outstanding writer to collaborate on a subsequent issue.

Please be aware: If we contact you about collaborating on an issue, you will be required to adhere to a tight deadline. Keep in mind that the entire issue is dedicated to you. There is only one photographer and one writer per issue; this is a great opportunity to showcase your talents and your individualized style.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

Please host your images on flickr.com, deviantart.com, your own personal website, or other online art gallery so we can get a feel for your style and consistency. Just send a query letter with a link to your online portfolio for publication consideration. We will not open e-mail attachments.  

WRITING:

Please specify in the body of your e-mail query what type of writing you are submitting (poetry, prose, interview, etc).  Send a sample of your writing as part of the body of your e-mail; for poetry, please send 5-6 poems; for prose, send a 2-3 page excerpt. For interviews, please send a proposal. We will not open e-mail attachments.

ALL OTHER MEDIA:

Please specify in the body of your e-mail what you would like to submit to us. We will consider music, short film, artwork (digital or otherwise), and other media. If you have an online portfolio or website on which we can view your project, please specify as such in your e-mail. You must query prior to submission! Waterlogged August is not responsible for unsolicited submissions.  We will not open e-mail attachments.

 REGARDING PAYMENT:

We currently do not pay for published submissions.
